WHO I AM…

I was born on October 22nd 1959 in Angers, Maine et Loire, France

I started learning the drums when I was 13 years old. During that period I was the drummer of the accordionist group of the Angers Conservatoire. At the age of 15 I joined a new group the “JoDiKa” and played in popular dances.

In 1978 I decided to play a new instrument: the guitar. I attended folk then classical lessons. When I was 20, I left for foreign countries, most of them in Europe, a pack on my back and my guitar in my hands!

I have to say I gave up music (to say the least on stage) for sport: Taï Jitsu. I worked in a fitness centre until 1992…

At the age of 40 I had surgery for a slipped disc. So I had to give up professional sport. Still in hospital, staying in my bed, I started playing the “UKULELE” which was much easier to be played than the guitar!

I met the pianist Vincent ROTTIER in 1999. He urged me to compose and write again, even to record my songs. I wasn’t ready yet so I set to work.

My son Tristan (Baby Jo) was born in December 1999, and changed my life.

2000: first album! “JO À BORA BORA” (arrangement by Vincent ROTTIER). This album was produced with very little money but this island really gives free rein. A year later Eric MONTARON made my first video clip: “BORA REG”, once again made with very little money but great friends. A sort of D.I.Y! Contentment reigned on the shooting. During the same period, I started playing in luxury hotels in Bora-Bora for short performances: LE MERIDIEN, INTERCONTINENTAL, PEARLBEACH RESORT.

Eric MONTARON made my second video clip in 2002: “ JO, ATTENDS”. It could be seen on TNTV.
In 2003 and 2004 I met new musicians and of course played with them: Bibi, Pascal, Hubert, Dino, Daniel, Siko, Giovani, Naho, Teiva, Mika & Fred, Angelo, Vehia, Eric, Mato, Jimmy, Lincoln ADLER, Eremoana, Titaua, Herenui, Fred BENSI, Michel POROI, Christian CHEBRET, Souad MASSI, John GLOVE, Manu KATCHE and Pat METHENY.

2005: duets, trios… Guitarists, chance companions bumped into each other and spent very happy times together. More work for me with more enthusiasm. Singing a duet with Titaua CASTEL, we appeared on stage several times a week in luxury hotels in Bora-Bora.

2006: second album “FAREREI” (arrangements by Eremoana EBB), another fantastic story among musician friends. Recorded at home as the”Studio Bleu!” A year later I made a guest performance on Michel POROI new album with his group “acoustic experience” and sang with him in “Best friends”, composed with Heipua LEHARTEL. Unforgettable!

Titaua CASTEL, Herenui TERIITEHAU and JO put a new band together: “NONEM”. We performed three times a year for special events.

2007: 3rd and 4th video clips. “MANA’O NA’O” and “VIVRE SUR UN MOTU” both directed by Edouard MALAKAI. Many thanks to all my friends who made these clips possible. TV viewers in French Polynesia could see them on TNTV, even in Bora-Bora homes! I carried on singing a duet with Herenui (percussion) in the Pearl Beach resort Hotel.

2008: 5th video clip “A HIMENE” once again directed by Edouard MALAKAI. Main actor: Herenui TERIITEHAU and another significant encounter…

2009: 3rd album “GRAND COMME ÇA” (arrangements by Eremoana EBB) inspired by my 8 year-old son Tristan. We sing a duet in this album.
